ENTROPY

I want to what exactly entropy means???I know the definition and formula but still not getting the physical significance. When we say temperature we can understand and feel it.But,in case of entropy each time I read about it I don't get it.Can anybody explore it's significance in easy way so that i can understand what exactly entropy means?

Tiaxiality in unit cell calculation

Dear imechanica Members,

I want to make a comparison between the results of a calculation of unit cell model and Gurson but I have a little problem on the triaxiality.

How to use the Riks algorithm in AbaqusCAE that the triaxiality remains constant during the loading of a unit cell?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

Fracture initiation in NiTi

Hi!

I am investigating the effect of triaxial stress state on the superelastic behavior in NiTi. In this regard I have conducted some simple tensile tests on notched specimen until fracture. The next step is to investigate the fracture surfaces in SEM to determine point of initiation and the structures. However, as my knowledge in fractography is limited at best, I am not really sure what to look for to determine eg. fracture initiation.

Lectures on Soft Active Materials, 2nd edition

In May 2008, I posted 3 lectures on Soft Active Materials given at UCSB.  I have since given similar lectures on other occasions, but never all three at the same place.  The field has been active.  The lectures have been updated with new items.  I’m now posting the “2nd edition” of these lectures.

  • Dielectric elastomers
  • Neutral gels
  • Polyelectrolyte gels
  • pH-sensitive gels

The slides are posted as delivered.  No effort is made to eliminate repeating slides.

about the multiscale aggregating method (MAD) of Prof. Belytschko

Hello all

I have spent a large amount of time trying to undertstand the multiscale aggregating method (MAD) of Prof. Belytschko. Unfortunately, I still can not compltely understand the method.

If there is anyone here in the forum already gets clear about the method, please help me.

Books for finite element method for implant and bone

Hi there,

I am new to Finite element method. I would like to know if their are any books for implants, bones and their interaction.

Thank you for your consideration.

Can a UMAT be reseased as Open Source (GPL) ?

(Question tranfered from previous blog post)

Dear iMechanica members,

Can ABAQUS or other commercial software's user material be reseased as open source code? GPL for example? If so, whith the multiple licenses proposed, which one would be most
suited for releasing vumat source code. The intent is simply to make
this vumat available to as many people as possible without anyone
taking undue ownership of the material law. Also, would there be any concerns about publications or articles concerning said material law once the source code is public?

Modeling of viscoelastic material in ANSYS

Any one can tell about the modelling of viscoelastic materials in ANSYS. In the modeeling how material properties can be given. Like I have material data in the form of Prony series parameter. If sone is having relaxation data how can that be fed to ANSYS model?

Remeshing in Abaqus/ Explicit

Hi Dear IMechanica User

I have faced up a problem during micro-scale cutting using abrasives. I am trying to model this process using Abaqus/explicit and with remeshing module. but currently there doesnt exist any remeshing technique in abaqus/explicit. Could you please suggest the way for doing this simulation by using remeshing technique in Abaqus/explicit. Abaqus/standard is not helpfull to model cutting simulation. this is because i am using Abaqus/explicit by the way.

I am awaiting your valuable suggestions and helpfull informations.

Branching of Mode II propagating crack

Hello everyone!

I'm interested in branching of Mode II propagating crack, mostly in high Cr steels, but any info may be useful and interesting. Does it tend to branch? What are the criteria? Velocity? Angle of branching?

Thanks,

Marina
