<p>The project will investigate modelling, simulation and optimisation of soft robots and structures using computational mechanics. <br />Research areas include: structural and morphological optimisation and multi-physics optimisation. </p>
<p>Applicants should have a PhD in Mechanical, Structural or Computational Engineering or a related discipline and proven experience in computational methods (e.g., finite element method, topology optimization, multi-scale or multi-physics simulation) and continuum mechanics (e.g., statics, dynamics, nonlinear mechanics, constitutive modelling). Strong programming skills are required, preferably in C++. Candidates should have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and have interest in soft robotics applications, but no previous knowledge in that domain is required.</p>

SERC launched the A*STAR Investigatorships in 2007.<br />
This prestigious award for top international young research talent,<br />
tenable at our research institutes, aims to nurture young talent and<br />
build R&D capabilities in Singapore. This year, the award is open<br />
for applications in the following areas:</p>
<p>- Cognitive Systems, including Robotics<br />
- Metamaterials and Plasmonics<br />
- Bioenergy and Energy Storage Technologies<br />
- Medical Technologies for Diagnostics</p>
<p>As<br />
in last year's call, interested applicants should have recently<br />
obtained their PhD (at most not more than 48 months, but preferably<br />
within 24 months). The awardees will be offered a research staff<br />
position at one of A*STAR's prestigious science and engineering<br />
research institutes for a duration of 3 years, renewable for a further<br />
3 years, with each A*STAR Investigator's laboratory eligible for a<br />
research grant of up to US$500K a year.

PhD training will be carried out in English at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NUS or NTU. Students will be supervised by distinguished and world-renowned researchers in these labs. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred a PhD degree by either NUS or NTU.</p>
