Assistant Professor Position at Penn State University

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor position in Mechanical Engineering. The position is open for highly-qualified individuals performing research in technical areas that support our multidisciplinary mechanical engineering curriculum. Priority will be given to applicants with strong background or potential in experimental or computational approaches for biomedical systems or components. The ability to merge mechanical engineering (e.g., solid and fluid mechanics, design, acoustics, heat transfer) concepts with biomedical (e.g., bio-mechanics, imaging, implants and prostheses, microdevices) applications is highly desirable.

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering is home to 48 faculty, 250 graduate students, and 750 undergraduate students. The faculty conducts in excess of $27M per year of funded research across a broad spectrum of traditional and emerging areas in Mechanical Engineering (see http://www.mne.psu.edu).Penn State actively encourages and provides resources for interdisciplinary collaboration through university-level initiatives that include the The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (http://www.huck.psu.edu/), Penn State Hershey Medical Center (http://www.pennstatehershey.org), the Materials Research Institute (http://www.mri.psu.edu), and the Penn State Institute for CyberScience (http://www.ics.psu.edu) among others.

Qualifications for this position include a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to develop an internationally-recognized externally-funded research program, and to contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, college, university, and profession through service We encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.
