Positions for PhD students

Two positions for PhD students are available in Prof. Peng-Cheng Ma’s group in The Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The institute locates in Urumqi, Xinjiang Province, a city has distinctively historic and cultural atmosphere. Currently the major research activities in the group are: i) Carbon-based materials for structural and functional applications; 2) Design, synthesis and application of polymer-based composites. Description on PhD projects:

1.      Polymer-based nanocomposites. This project will focus on the development of polymer nanocomposites with high thermal conductivity used for the thermal control in a transformer (thermal distribution, thermal dissipation and thermal stability). Students with experience in the thermal properties of materials and/or fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs), polymer nanocomposites, nanotechnology, are encouraged to apply.

2.      Materials for oil-water separation. The project will concentrate on the design and synthesis of materials with hierarchical structures for the separation of oil-water mixture. Students with experience in polymer synthesis, amphiphilic (hydrophobic and hydrophilic) material, chemical vapor deposition, polymer foam, are encouraged to apply.

Students should have high level of initiativeness, good command of English, and excellent academic record, as verified by publications, patents, and so on.
