Postdoc position in Paris on generalized continua modelling and experiments

Justin Dirrenberger's picture

THIS POSITION IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

A postdoctoral fellowship is available at Paris Institute of Technology (ParisTech) to work on generalized continua modeling.

The aim of this project is to probe the pertinence of generalized continua models by maximizing the non-standard effects of such models. It consists in a holistic approach including experimental, computational and modelling work. This project, funded by CNRS and Arts et Métiers-ParisTech, through F2M (Fédération Francilienne de Mécanique), is a collaboration between several laboratories in the Paris region. See the file attached for more details.

The candidate should have obtained a PhD in solid mechanics, materials science, or any related field. He/she is expected to conduct advanced experimental work, as well as enriched simulation and modelling. A prior experience with one or more aspects of the project is expected from the candidate, i.e. coding and/or scripting, field measurements, generalized continua, finite element implementation, auxetics, etc.

The experimental work will be conducted at Ecole Normale Supérieure within the LMT-Cachan, while the modelling and numerical implementation will take place at Arts et Métiers-ParisTech (in the PIMM lab) which is located in the heart of Paris. Net pay is about 2000 EUR per month. The position is to be filled as soon as possible, for a period of 12 months, with a possibility of extension.

Applications should be sent via e-mail to J. Dirrenberger (justin.dirrenberger-at-ensam.eu), as a single PDF file including a detailed CV, a cover letter, and a full list of publication.

Regarding the work environment, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers is one of the top French engineering school. It has trained over 85,000 engineers since its foundation in 1780 by the Duke of Rochefoucauld Liancourt, and has since then been a founding member of the ParisTech. In 2007, the school adopted the brand name Arts et Métiers-ParisTech. The PIMM laboratory is located within the historical site of the school, at the border of the Latin quarter, in the very heart of Paris (see a map here).

Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (ENS Cachan) is a prestigious public institution of higher education and research founded in 1912, and one of the major French Grandes Écoles, which are considered the pinnacle of French higher education. The activities of LMT-Cachan cover the fields of solid mechanics and structural mechanics. Its research works focused primarily on material aspects. Over the past two decades, they have also turned towards numerical simulation and computational structural mechanics.
