Call for Nominations for the Zdeněk P. Bažant Medal for Failure and Damage Prevention

EMI, the Engineering Mechanics Institute of ASCE, is pleased to announce that the ASCE Board of Direction has established the Zdenek P. Bazant Medal for Failure and Damage Prevention.  This award was established to honor Zdeněk P. Bažant, Ph.D., S.E., NAS, NAE, Hon.M.ASCE, a recognized expert in the field of analytical and computational modeling of failure of quasi-brittle materials.

The award will be given for the first time in 2016.  It will consist of a medal, suitably inscribed with the name of the recipient and the year of award, and a cash prize.  The award selection committee will be composed of members from EMI and the U.S. National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (USNCTAM).  The rules for the award are posted at:

TO NOMINATE, SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING BY NOVEMBER 1:

·         A cover letter, signed by the nominator

·         An Official Award Nomination form

·         The nominee's CV or biographical information 

·         Two or three letters of recommendation
