Postdoc positions in the new group of Pedro Reis at EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland
I have openings for two post-doc positions in my new research group at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland, where I will be moving later this year. The target start date is January 1st, 2018.
The two successful postdocs will join a vibrant team of researchers with interdisciplinary expertise in experimental, computational and theoretical mechanics. The specifics of the research projects are to be set collaboratively with the candidate but should be expected to fall in the general area of physics and mechanics of soft/compliant mechanical structures, across length scales. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: shells/gridshells; thin elastic filaments; fluid-structure interaction in passive and active flexible systems, optical composites, and active soft materials.
Candidates with either Physics or Engineering backgrounds are welcomed to apply. One of the positions will be focused on experimental mechanics. The following areas of expertise are particularly welcomed: rapid prototyping, micro-fabrication, polymer synthesis, mechanical testing, control/automation/robotics, and image processing. For the computational mechanics position, experience with Finite Element Analysis, Python, and C++ is highly desirable.
Opportunities for involvement in the teaching of mechanics-related classes, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, will be provided.
Applications should be sent to <firstname.lastname@example.org> and must include the following documents: (i) Cover Letter; (ii) CV with list of publications; and (iii) Two recommendation letters.
Applications received by May 30th, 2017 will receive equal consideration. The positions will remain open until filled. Recently graduated Ph.D. candidates and graduate students in their last year of studies and are especially welcomed to apply.
