LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc. LGFCS is a solid oxide fuel cell SOFC company focused on development of SOFC power system for distributed generation applications. The company has two major shareholders, LG Companies and Rolls-Royce plc, and facilities in the United States (North Canton, Ohio-headquarters), the United Kingdom (Derby) and Korea (Seoul).

 

 

As a Materials Engineer your role will be located in Canton, Ohio and you will be a key member of the cell and stack development team, developing and validating next generation solid oxide fuel cell technology for improved performance, durability and cost reduction.  Your role as Materials Engineer will encompass a variety of responsibilities to include raw material evaluation, material characterization testing, test article preparation and electrochemical testing.

 

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Developing material specifications for SOFC cells and stacks resulting in longer life while meeting cost targets
  • Performing screen printing, particle sizing and surface area measurements
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records of research activities
  • Contributing to the broad understanding of degradation mechanisms occurring within solid oxide fuel cells
  • DOE experimental design and data analysis for both materials screening and processing optimization
  • Troubleshooting to identify root causes related to the issues during fuel cell processing and electrochemical testing
  • Carrying out conductivity testing, DC and AC impedance cell testing, metallography, optical and electron microscopy
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work as part of a team to deliver milestones on time in a fast paced environment

Qualifications

Basic:

  • Bachelors degree in Materials Engineering or Engineering with 2+ years of experience in general ceramic processing or fuel cell technology OR
  • Masters degree in Materials Engineering or Engineering with 0+ years of experience in general ceramic processing or fuel cell technology OR
  • JD/PHD in Materials Engineering or Engineering with 0+ years experience in general ceramic processing or fuel cell technology
  • In order to be considered for this opportunity you must be U.S. Citizen/Resident, Asylee, Refugee or have permanent/indefinite work authorization. No Visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in Materials Engineering
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Laboratory and/or work experience involving electrochemical testing for fuel cells or batteries, and preferably solid oxide fuel cells
  • Experience in general ceramic processing techniques and specifically in screen printing operations
  • Experience in impedance measurements and analysis
