A PhD position is available beginning at the start of the Spring 2019 semester in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Penn State. The PhD student is to conduct research within the scope of ultrasonic wave propagation in polycrystalline materials for materials characterization. Specific areas of interest include:

  • ultrasonics for nondestructive evaluation and/or structural health monitoring
  • immersion ultrasonic testing
  • scattering theory
  • microstructure modeling with familiarity to statistical microstructure descriptions (correlation functions, orientation distribution functions, process-structure-property linkages, etc)
  • nonlinear ultrasonics (harmonic generation, acoustoelasticity)
  • resonant ultrasound spectroscopy
  • acoustic metamaterials
  • metallic additive manufacturing

Interested candidates are encouraged to send their CV to Dr. Christopher M. Kube ( ckube@huskers.unl.edu ).

Prospective candidates can review application requirements at http://www.esm.psu.edu/academics/graduate/how-to-apply.aspx
