Post-Doctoral Researcher Computational Modelling of Bioabsorbable Medical Devices

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term Postdoctoral Researcher position on computational mechanics of biodegradable medical devices at the Biomechanics Research Centre (BioMec) NUI Galway. This position is funded through a European Union Horizon-2020 project, ‘InSilc’ (In-silico trials for drug-eluting bioabsorbable vascular scaffold development and evaluation), and and are available from 1st May 2019 to the 31st October 2020.

This research will be conducted using the equipment, technical expertise, office and research space within the College of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway.

 Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for computational simulation of polymer- and metal-based bioabsorbable materials. The successful candidate will be experienced in development of computational models of medical devices and/or biomechanics. The candidate will work closely with industrial and academic collaborators from the InSilc consortium (www.insilc.eu)

Duties:

The successful candidates will:

·         Conduct a specified programme of research in the area of finite element modelling of degradation of vascular stents.

·         Engage in collaborative research activity with other members of the InSilc consortium.

·         Contribute to the research project’s dissemination through the preparation of reports on project deliverables.

·         Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research, by actively participate in national/international conferences and meetings and publishing in high impact factor journals.

 Qualifications/Skills required:

·         Applicants must have a primary degree and Ph.D. in mechanical or biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.

·         Applicants must have first author publications in leading journals in the field of finite element modelling, biomechanics and/or continuum mechanics.

 Essential Requirements:

·         Applicants must have a strong background in computational modelling of medical devices and/or biomechanics.

·         Applications must have a strong background in the Abaqus Finite Element software.

·         Applicants must have experience in engineering programming languages.

·         Applicants should have excellent communication and organizational skills and should be highly motivated.

Desirable Requirements:

·         Experience in degradation modelling of metallic or polymer materials.

·         Experience in the development of user defined material subroutines (UMATS).

 Salary €39,530 - €41,828 per annum

 Start date: Position is available from May 1st 2019
