Postdoc in Mechanics/Tribology and/or Triboelectric Nanogenerators

Daniel Mulvihill's picture

Specifically, the post requires expert knowledge in experimental and/or computational mechanics of materials and/or tribology (or triboelectricity and electro-adhesion). Topics which can be pursued in the project include the mechanics and tribology of triboelectric nanogenerators, structured adhesive joints, electro-adhesion, contact stiffness and friction.  The exact focus will depend on the candidate’s background. Candidates who have worked on fabricating, testing or modelling triboelectric nanogenerators (either mechanics or electronic aspects) are also welcomed. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow. The candidate will work with an experienced team at the University of Glasgow including Dr Daniel Mulvihill, Prof Nikolaj Gadegaard and Prof Ravinder Dahiya. The candidate will be able to work in a multidisciplinary team spanning three research groups: Materials and Manufacturing Research Group (MMRG), Biological Interfaces at Glasgow Group (BIG) and the Bendable Electronics and Sensing Group (BEST). The post is for 1 year in the first instance with possibility of extension.

Candidates are invited with experience in: theoretical and computational modelling of materials (e.g. finite element analysis) and/or experimental techniques in materials engineering and/or tribology and/or fabrication and testing of triboelectric nanogenerators. Knowledge/qualifications in any of: solid mechanics/tribology/friction/contact mechanics/surface metrology/bonded adhesive joints and triboelectric or electro-mechanics problems. Candidates with backgrounds in electronic engineering and energy harvesters are also welcome. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.
