Funded PhD positions in the area of additive manufacturing of metals and alloys

We have two PhD positions in the area of additive manufacturing of metals and alloys. We are looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic students with a degree in mechanical or materials engineering.

Students with following backgrounds are strongly recommended to apply:

• Additive manufacturing.
• Fracture mechanics.
• Solid mechanics and finite element modeling of materials
• Crystal plasticity
• Diffraction and imaging 

Prospective candidates will be assessed based on how well they meet the following criteria:

•  Excellent degree in their relevant discipline;
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills (iBT TOFEL score must be higher than 86, with no individual score below 20)

The following skills are desirable:

• Strong background in additive manufacturing of metals and alloys.
• Strong background in imaging and diffraction techniques, e.g. SEM, EBSD, XRD, DIC.
• Good understanding of fracture mechanics.
• Ability to work with finite element packages, e.g., ABAQUS.
• Ability to program in any of the following languages: FORTRAN, MATLAB, or Python.
