Tenure Track Faculty Position in the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department: U.S. Naval Academy

The Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department at the U.S. Naval Academy invites applications for one or more tenure-track positions with an anticipated start as early as summer 2024. Preference will be given to Assistant Professor candidates, but exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will be considered. The department seeks individuals with expertise in areas of mechanical or nuclear engineering. Candidates should have a solid commitment to undergraduate teaching, to producing high-quality peer-reviewed research, and to mentoring a diverse group of students drawn from every congressional district and U.S. territory. 

The Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department offers ABET accredited degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, and General Engineering. Our faculty consists of approximately 23 tenured or tenure track civilian professors with doctorates who balance teaching excellence with internationally recognized research programs, plus 13 active duty military officers with Masters or Doctoral degrees. The department supports up to 100 students each year who major in one of our disciplines, provides core engineering classes to other majors, and teaches applied thermodynamics to all students at the Naval Academy.

The U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) is a four-year undergraduate institution with a mission to prepare our students morally, mentally, and physically for commissioning as officers in the naval services. This is a 10-month federal excepted service position with a three-year initial academic appointment. Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
