Description

The school of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing at Cranfield University, UK, seeks applications for Research Fellows in modelling Mesoscale mechanics. This position, sponsored by UK and US government agencies, seeks to develop novel approaches in crystal plasticity. In addition to a fluent international collaboration, you will join a unique research environment that will allow you to perform leading research in mesoscale mechanics and the broad area of modelling metallic materials with physics-based models. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, interacting with various researchers and working with a range of modelling techniques and experiments.

Requirements

A PhD (or near to completion) in Engineering or Science, with an excellent knowledge of mechanics of materials in metals. The candidate should have experience in developing and performing crystal plasticity simulations and microstructure-sensitive modelling in finite element software such as Abaqus or Ansys. With a developing track record of publishing in high quality journals, you will also have excellent and demonstrable coding skills. Excellent communication, planning and organising and problem-solving skills are also essential in this role. Experience with modelling high strain rate materials and a background in uncertainty quantification are also desirable.
