CALL FOR PAPERS: Materials Modeling: Recent Progress in Metal and Ceramic Based Systems

Materials Modeling: Recent Progress in Metal and Ceramic Based Systems, http://icces.org/cgi-bin/ices09/pages/index

The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers to discuss recent research advances and challenges in modeling of metal and ceramic based materials. The development of various models that capture and predict the fundamental insights and structure-property relationships across various time and length scales will advance the design of micro/macro structural systems and devices for survivability and multi functionality, which often involves emerging high-technology materials. The current research in computational materials science focuses on understanding the mechanics, structure-property relationships, stability, and the design of these high-technology materials.

 This symposium will bring together researchers in the industry and academia focusing on the development and application of computational models at all time and length scales so as to reduce the dependence on experimental and empirical measurements. The symposium will allow for an understanding in the current capabilities and challenges in order to build an integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) capability for metal and ceramic based materials. The symposium invites abstracts to discuss the recent progress in the areas of continuum modeling, molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo methods, abinitio calculations etc., in the following areas:

    * Mechanical properties/mechanics of nano-/poly-crystalline materials
    * Development and application of computational tools to study multi-component systems
    * Multiscale modeling

This symposium will focus on development and application of new methods of modeling across all time and length scales for the emerging high-technology materials.
