TATA/EPSRC PhD studentship: Modelling of phase separation in steelmaking Imperial College London - Department of Materials Duration of Studentship: 42 months Applications are invited for a studentship in the field of clean and green steel processing, leading to the award of a PhD degree. The post is to conduct research in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London and is supported by an initial bursary of £16,570 (including £3,000 p.a. contributed from TATA steel) and the tuition fees are paid at the home rate only.The project is aimed at exploring a novel method to improve and accelerate the removal of non-metallic inclusions from liquid steels. The inclusions can be solid particles, liquid droplets and gas bubbles. This project will use and further develop the in-house code package to simulate the processing and validate the theoretical concepts and numerical results by experiments.The project is suitable for a student with a background in Materials, Physics, Mathematics or related subject, who can demonstrate the knowledge and motivation to undertake a multidisciplinary based PhD. Applicants should have (or expect to be awarded) an upper second class degree (or equivalent). Students should meet the EPSRC residency criteria to be eligible for this studentship.
