strain dependent shear modulus

Hi all,
I want to model a soil body which its shear modulus changes with the deviatoric strain.I know it can be introduced in ABAQUS by field variables (defining a field variable). But the question is that how can I tell ABAQUS that the defined variable is the "deviatoric strain" ?

Study the manual example for the subroutine USDFLD.
As deviatoric strain seems to be unknown to Abaqus by default, you have to code it within this routine. You have to access several strain terms as shown in the example, and then process them to arrive at the deviatoric strain.
