What do
Guitar Strings Have to do With Dynamic Response?

Tightening
guitar strings to change the sound uses the same principle as tightening head
bolts to change the dynamic response of an engine block assembly. This is
stress stiffening and it affects the dynamic response of a structure. One of
the fundamental components in assessing nonlinear static stress is stress
stiffening, but it is also the most overlooked when evaluating the steady-state
dynamic response of engine assemblies.

When
testing stress stiffening, it is important to understand and account for
effects within the confines of a linear code. Abaqus/Standard can help with
this by using the automatic multi-level substructuring eigensolver. Please click
