Postdoc position in Experimental Mechanics of Polymers at the University of Oxford

Laurence Brassart's picture

A 3-year postdoctoral position is available in the Solid Mechanics & Materials Group at the University of Oxford to study the mechanical and degradation behaviour of biodegradable polymers using experimental methods. The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by Associate Prof. Laurence Brassart and the project is supported by UKRI.

The project aims to unravel the couplings between mechanics and hydrolytic degradation in model polymers (e.g. PLA) using carefully-designed experiments. Applications include bioresorbable implants (tissue engineering scaffolds, medical fibres) and plastics for agriculture or packaging. The successful candidate should have extensive expertise in the mechanical testing and microstructure characterisation of polymers (tensile/compression testing, SEM, AFM, DMA, ...). They should also have the ability to design and run experiments independently, including the design of purpose-built rigs for degradation studies under load. The successful candidate should also have strong foundation in mechanics of materials and fracture mechanics.

While the project is mainly experimental, the candidat will also be contributing to ongoing modelling efforts by working in close collaboration with members of the group. There will also be opportunities to be involved in teaching.

Details about the project and the procedure to apply can be found here:

The closing date is May 13th at 12pm (Noon), UK time. Ability to submit the application on time is part of the selection criteria ;)
