Contact and XFEM?

Hi,

Initially, I asked this question to the Yahoo Group COMSOL
(FE package for multi physics simulation) because I thought, that there I
can find someone who is familiar with both COMSOL and Abaqus.
Unfortunately, among the experts of COMSOL I did not find an expert in
Abaqus.
COMSOL has an example 'Tube Connection' - a flange with four prestressed
bolts is subjected to tensile forces. To compute the influence of the
tensile force on the stress level in the bolt, the model includes a
parametric analysis. There is no problem for me to do it in Abaqus in
classical way. COMSOL example uses the augmented Lagrange solver. It's
very easy to setup model in COMSOL and problem solves fast enough. I
just wonder how to setup this model in Abaqus (with new approaches -
cohesive and / or XFEM modeling) to solve a problem (the problem
description is in the appendix)?

Mike

Hi,

I am surprised, that in spite of the fact that it is more than 150 users have read my message, nobody has answered. Such problem was a subject of discussion in the article “An X-FEM formulation for contact in multi-material ALE calculations” E. Vitali and D.J. Benson (Int. J. Numer. Meth. Engn 2006; 67: 1420-1444), but they have used LS-DYNA. Is it really such statement of the problem is impossible in Abaqus?

Regards,
Mike
