Thermo-mechanical model of friction stir welding

My name is Aurelio Tronci and I am a PhD student at the University of Cagliari (Italy). My research topics are related to friction stir welding (FSW). The work done so far has focused on the application of the DOE technique in order to investigate the influence of welding parameters on the microstructural and mechanical properties of aluminum alloys (AA 2198 T3-T8) joints. At the moment I am interested in the development of a thermo-mechanical model of FSW with CFD, but I find it really difficult to find material constants (Sellars and Tegart law) for all the alloys I have to test.

CFL number

Free Tags:

I'm working at a University where we are developing and running interface software for CFD simmulations. There are no CFD specialists in my lab, however, so we get the information we need from a couple of other labs around campus.

Unfortunately, no one seems to know what the CFL number is, or how to use it.

Can I just get a simple explanation of the CFL number and a general range in which it should lie?

Thank you!

How simulate slurry's filtration in porous media?

I wanna simulate the penetration of the slurry into soil when TBM is used to construct tunnel.  Although much more research has been done by experiments,I wanna use CFD to simulate the process which can make it more common and efficient.

For it is very similar to filtration cake physically,I would like to use some results by this. But it is very difficult to sumulate it by the software ANSYS CFD.

Is there some guy who have tried is field?Any suggestion will be appreciated!

PhD projects in computational fracture and computational/theoretical fluids at University of Melbourne

The Australian Mineral Science Research Institute (AMSRI) is a consortium of Australia's best scientists working in minerals industry-related fields. Research activities span the breadth of minerals processing, with major themes of the research being energy efficiency, frugal water use and efficient management of waste. The Mathematics program of AMSRI performs modelling and analysis research across multiple minerals processing areas, including comminution, flotation and waste treatment.

Mimics 11.1 released!

Leuven, November 19, 2007. Materialise
launches Mimics 11.1, the new release of the company’s medical imaging and
editing software. This new release builds on the last one, enhancing export to
FEA even more. Overall usability and performance were improved with some very
nice new features. Take a look at our website for more information.
