Delamination using cohesive interaction
Mon, 2011-09-12 13:07 - abhishekaran
Hello,
Im trying to simlate delamination in abaqus and after going through the documentation i decided to go for the cohesive element approac. In the documentation it is mentioned that we use a general contact(explicit) for the interation but when i do that i am unable to use general, static step. So which step do i go for if i i want to simulate a static delamination ?

Use traction-separation law to describe the cohesive behavior
If you use cohesive element,
you will need to define the constitutive behavior of the cohesive elements.
A simple one is the traction-separation law which is provided in the manual.
Actually i did not use a
Actually i did not use a cohesive element. What i did was that i just made 2 cuboids and the interaction between them i used a contact explicit and gave it cohesive properties. In this interaction i defined damage initiation and evolution. But then the documentation asks me to use contact explicit and then im unable to apply a static load. Also i tried using a 3rd layer which is very thin and even though the delamination occured it deviated from experimental results so im trying to use the cohesive surface approach now
