dynamic fracture with Xfem

Submitted by bijan.jamali on

hi I am a student of mechanical engineering, Isfahan university of technology in master degree and the title of my thesis is:Rapid crack propagation in pressurized pipe

in order to use Abaqus X-fem for simulation of cracked pipe I have some essential questions :

1)Can I simulate rapid crack propagation of this geometry in Xfem? (with attention to the geometry of a pipe)

2)Is Xfem able to analyze Ductile fracture?

3)Is Xfem able to use larg deformation theory?

4)which software do you offer to simulate a ductile and dynamic fracture of a pipe?

                          thanks

It is known that in weldings there are a frequante defects due to many causes, one of the most dangrous defacts are cracks, these lasts when propagate they may cause the collapse of many welded structures, we distinguish two sort of cracks located in the following zones of the welded structure near the weld joint, especially in the heat affected zone and the molten zone, due to the fast cooling rate in this last two zones, cracks appear, there is mainly two types :

1. cold cracking, which appear before the cooling of the weld.

2. hot cracking, which appear when the weld cools.

these cracks have many orientations and locations.

my actual cancern is upon studing the initiation, and propagation of these cracks under different types of charges and loadings.

i'm waiting for any comments from people who are dealing with this topic.
