Crack Propagation by XFEM

Submitted by anthony_wong on

Hai everyone.

Good day, i'm a new to XFEM who currently doing research in electronic field. I'm thinking about since the crack can be propagated without a crack tip by strain loading, how about the crack propagation by using thermal loading? I didn't see any example of this kind of problem, so can anyone tell me is that possible to do such simulation? Your suggestion is important for me and will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Anthony,

I noticed that you are also working on crack propagation using XFEM. Do you know how to import the strain values from one simulation into XFEM, to take into account the strain values of that simulation?

Thank you

Hi Sam,

So far in my practising for XFEM, i havent tried to import any value from other simulation. Normally i will just enter the value by myself. Sorry about that.

Thanks.

Hi Sam,

By the way, can i ask u a question... it's about the 2D crack propagation on a plate, where i cannot obtain the SIF value, but the papers & journals available show the result of SIF even in 2D and also 3D.

The error is, " The following history output request are applied to XFEM cracks with crack domains that are not 3D solids"

Do you know what is the problem or do u see this before?

Thank you.
