Hi All,

I am working with XFEM from past few years
and obtained several good results with my developed code. However, recently I
have observed that for a particular problem, the stress profile is always oscillatory
in nature along the fracture line/plane. Problem statement: Biaxial compressive
loading in a circular hole intersected by a fracture/fault line or plane.  For clarity, I have attached short description
of the problem and results (2D). Following are my questions:

(a) Do
I need to impose any boundary/other conditions for this problem?

(b) Is
it a shortcoming of XFEM for this particular problem? or

(c) My
elemental formulation is wrong?

I have obtained similar oscillatory stress
profile along the fracture plane in case 3D. I am looking forward to receive your suggestions, comments to improve or overcome stress oscillation for this
particular problem.

Thank you in advance and have
a nice day.
