I am working to incorporate the welding defects on the specimen and check the stress variations. Can anyone tell me how to create the welding joint between the material. What i did was modeled the plates to be welded and weld geometry and assembled it, further elasitc material properties have been given to the plates and plastic material properties have been applied to the weld model. My major doubt is on what basis the connection between the assembled geometries (that is the connection between the weld geometry and the plate) are taken in Abaqus, can we introduce the weld connection between the plate and the weld geometry or give any suggestions.

When i take welding problem into consideration, physical models of weld and base metal are logically contiguous , the two parts are distinguished according to the material section assignment.

As you said i have given the plastic material properties and assigned it for the weld region and elastic material properties for the base metal region. After the material assignment i create the independent mesh instances and merge the instances, is it correct, do you have any journal support for the regarding problem, if it so please help me.
