How to contact between solid elements after cohesive elements failed?

      Hi, I have used langrangian framwork proposed by Needleman in 1994 to model materials' failure under compression. In this model cohesive elements were inserted along solid elements boundary.

      However, a critical problem occures when the model experiences large deformation, that is to say, adjacent solid elements will come into contact after cohesive elements failed. Abaqus provides a method to solve this problem under small sliding condition. Cohesive elements are not deleted to keep its capacity of resisting penetration. This method isn't suitable for model which fails under large deformation.

       So Have anyone met this problem and how to solve it ? Any reply will be appreciated.
