Research Group Mechanics of Adaptive Systems
REASEARCH ASSISTANT
ca. 19,92 hours per week
The Research Group Mechanics of Adaptive Systems at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum announces the available post for a
Research Assistant with 19,92 working hours per week, employment first for a period of 24 months.
Requirements:
- Excellent university degree (master or diploma) in Mechanical Engineering or similar fields of engineering; above-average grades during studies
- Focus: smart materials and structures; control theory and active systems; applied mechanics; adaptronics; computational methods, simulation techniques;
- very good knowledge of English language.
Tasks:
- research and teaching in the field of Mechanics of Adaptive Systems;
- research and development of active structures and systems (smart structures), especially under implementation of piezoelectric materials; controller design;
- modeling using finite element method; simulation;
- structural damage identification, health monitoring and active control.
Payment in accordance with a limited working contract over two years according to TV-L, E13, with possibility of extension. Participation in teaching with 2 hours per week. Opportunity for Ph.D. degree.

Required qualifications:
- over-average University degree (master or diploma) in Engineering;
- expertise in simulation and computational engineering software (e.g. Matlab/Simulink, FEM-Abaqus);
- ability to independently carry out experimental research and evaluate the results (knowledge of signal processing is advantageous);
- programming skills;
- excellent English language skills (written and spoken);motivation to work within our research group self-initiative art of working, team work.
