Research Fellow (Post-doc) position in Micromechanical Modelling of Lithium-Ion Batteries

The post is funded through a recently awarded four year European H2020 research project SINTBAT (Silicon based materials and new processing technologies for improved lithium-ion batteries), and coordinated by VARTA.

This part of the project is to develop advanced computational multiscale models for Si anode Li-ion batteries to predict their capacity fade, and their in-situ and macroscopic mechanical behaviour within the anode. The main focus will be on development and numerical implementation of nonlinear (finite deformation) computational models based on the Representative Volume Element (RVE) – this will involve significant extensions to the existing software for microstructure reconstruction of particle-filled materials, development/use and numerical implementation of nonlinear constitutive laws for anode material components, and development and implementation of nonlinear computational homogenisation techniques for coupled stress-diffusion problems with the nonlinear Finite Element framework.

You will hold a PhD qualification in a relevant area of engineering/chemistry, physics or mathematics, be flexible and represent at project meetings. You will join an internationally leading research team within WMG and you will be part of the Nanocomposites Modelling Group in WMG, which is dedicated to developing experimentally-validated multiscale models and methods for predictive analysis of advanced multifunctional materials.
