Viscoelastic Cooling -- Residual Stresses

Submitted by shrimad on

Hi,

I am trying to cool glass (viscoelastic material model) from its
transition temperature to a specific temperature near its annealing
temperature by gradual cooling, by specifying the cooling rate. I want
to estimate the residual stresses as a result.

I am not clear as to how to specify the problem in ANSYS. For ex,
if I want to cool from 500 C (which is also my reference temperature)
to 200 C at the rate of 2C/sec, then how do I specify the cooling rate
and the end temperature in ANSYS?

I know how to specify the TB, PRONY and TB,SHIFT data etc., but I am
able to understand how to specify the rate and the start and the end
temperature. Howdo I specify the start and the end temperature in this time dependent cooling in ANSYS?

Any help/suggestions will be really insightful.

Thanks,

Shriram

Hi Shriram,

I have not use ansys for a long time and i am using ABAQUS but i think the concept should be the same. Cooling can be done either through convection with a fluid or conduction it is depend on your problem. You might also want to cool it via Boundry conditions that you can input this as a tabulated data or other choices. Alternatively you can try heat flux.

By the way do you know how can i convert a viscositty curve to PRONY data?

Thanks,

Soheil
