We are looking for a highly motivated research scientist to work in the area of applied mechanics and materials at A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) in Singapore. The topic is on soft active materials and soft robots. You are expected to work on theoretical modeling and numerical implementation of finite element procedures.

The Finite Difference (FD) and the Spectral Boundary Integral (SBI) methods have been used extensively to model spontaneously propagating shear cracks in a variety of engineering and geophysical applications. In this paper, we propose a new modeling approach, in which these two methods are combined through consistent exchange of boundary tractions and displacements. Benefiting from the flexibility of FD and the efficiency of spectral boundary integral methods, the proposed hybrid scheme will solve a wide range of problems in a computationally efficient way.
A position of postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Materials Group at the University of Virginia is available as a result of a new collaborative project aimed at the development of advanced methods of carbon fibers fabrication from organic precursors. The postdoctoral researcher will join a multi-disciplinary research team working on optimization of atomic structure of carbon fibers through targeted experiments and multiscale modeling of chemical reactions and structural rearrangements occurring at different stages of the carbon fiber fabrication.
Research assistantships are available for students interested in pursuing Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering. The graduate students will join the Computational Materials Group and work on the development and application of various computational techniques (atomistic, continuum, mesoscopic) to research problems in general areas of laser – materials interactions, acoustic activation of surface processes, and investigation of properties of nanostructured materials.
