Alternate expressions for the angular variation of the K-field stresses and displacements around a sharp-crack embedded in an elastic medium subjected to an in-plane mixed-mode (mode-1 and -2) loading are presented. The expressions are derived in terms of the mode-mixity angle instead of superposing the pure-mode fields. The alternate expressions are derived using complex potentials and the Kolosov-Muskhelishvili method. The mixed-mode stress and displacement fields are presented in the crack-tip Cartesian and polar coordinates. We have obtained the crack growth angle in terms of the mixity-angle assuming the maximum hoop- and principal-stress criterions.

I am conducting buckling analysis for cylindrical ring (Short and thick cylinder) with Lateral Pressure.
I reviewed the basic books ("Buckling of Bars, Plates, and Shells" and "Theory of Elastic Stability" – Timoshenko) and all I could find is buckling of rectangular planes in the axial direction or buckling of cylindrical shells which buckles in the radial direction.

I'm working on the thermal buckling analysis of a radially graded annular FG plates with temperature dependent properties.
The results show that the temperature dependent thermal buckling loads are greater than those of the temperature independent, but I have expected for vice vesa results!
Can anyone explain it ?

Qian Weichang passed away on 30 July 2010.
He was 98.
Qian, a pioneer in mechanics and applied mathematics in
modern China, was one of the three famous "Qians" in China's science and
technology field. He was well known alongside Qian Xuesen, the father
of China's space program, and Qian Sanqiang, a nuclear physicist who
oversaw the development of China's nuclear program.

Although the nineties witnessed an intensity of research on nanocrystalline metals owing to their ultra-high strength, the early enthusiasm was met with severe disappointment due to their brittle nature and loss of structural stability.
