ADVANCED CALL FOR PROPOSALS: IUTAM SYMPOSIUM and INSTRUCTIONAL SUMMER SCHOOLS for 2010 and 2011 (Proposals due no later than January 15, 2008)

The United States National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (USNC/TAM) seeks proposals from U.S. authors and institutions to host IUTAM (International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics) Symposia or IUTAM Instructional Summer Schools in 2010 or 2011.

First AAM 2008 Conference

On June 17-20, 2008 the Inaugural Conference of the American Academy of Mechanics will be hosted in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following this conference this event will be hosted in the USA every four years to coincide with the ICTAM conference. This meeting will help the mechanics communities with applications in solids, fluids, bio, etc. to interact and set new challenging concepts and refinements in the existing areas of Mechanics.

Openings for New Ph.D. Students on Composite Materials and Failure Mechanics at Vanderbilt University, USA

New students may start from January 2008 if the graduate students have previous research experience in solid mechanics (e.g., nano/micro-mechanics, computational mechanics) or material engineering (MD simulation, mechanical behaviors). Students will have the opportunities to conduct balanced experimental and computational work on the durabilty and impact failure of marine composite materials; failure and material designs of nanocomposite materials; or rehabilitation of infrastructure materials using composites and other materials.  An MS degree is required.

When is the right time for a Post Doc. to start applying for a lecturership position?

I normally come across many advertisements about lecturership positions in different universities all around the world. And I always wonder when is the right time for a post doc. to apply for it? As, I am never sure that my experience will be enough for the position.

What are the necessary ingredients of a post doc.'s CV, that should help him getting such position?
