AAM: Newly Elected Fellows

The American Academy of Mechanics is pleased to announce that
Jacob Fish, the Rosalind and John J. Redfern Chaired Professor of Engineering at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Martin Ostoja-Starzewski, Professor of
Mechanical Science & Engineering at University of Illinois have both been
elected as Fellows of the Academy. They will be presented with certificates
honoring their new status at the first AAM Summer Conference to be held from

First AAM 2008 Conference

On June 17-20, 2008 the Inaugural Conference of the American Academy of Mechanics will be hosted in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following this conference this event will be hosted in the USA every four years to coincide with the ICTAM conference. This meeting will help the mechanics communities with applications in solids, fluids, bio, etc. to interact and set new challenging concepts and refinements in the existing areas of Mechanics.

The American Academy of Mechanics (AAM)

As a member society of the U.S. National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (USNC/TAM) , the objective of the American Academy of Mechanics (AAM) is the advancement of the science and profession of mechanics.

The scope of AAM includes all of the disciplines involved in the modeling and study of the response of inanimate and animate matter to forces and environmental effects.

2006 American Academy of Mechanics awards - Call for nominations

The American Academy of Mechanics calls for nominations for two awards from its members:

The 2006 American Academy of Mechanics Outstanding Service Award

Preliminary nominations should consist of a one-page letter describing the outstanding service of the nominee to the Academy as well as to the profession, along with a one-page biographical sketch of the nominee, together with the names of at least three people willing to write letters of support in the event that the Awards Committee requests them.
