We have immediate openings for candidates in the areas of a) computational solid mechanics and b) experimental biomechanics.
Candidates with strong background in numerical simulations (finite element analysis, high performance computing, ...) or previous strong experience in experimental characterization of materials are encouraged to apply. To be considered, please send CV with a cover letter, and copy of journal publications to hatami [at] uic.edu .
Dear Mechanicians,
You are cordially invited to submit your abstract (text 400 words) to our Symposium on Recent Advances in Mechanical Metamaterials (symposium 352) as part of the 18th U.S. National Congress for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics that will be hosted by Northwestern University at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare from June 5 to June 9, 2018.
Abstract submission is open until November 10, 2017
The attached, to appear in I.J. Impact Engng., is an attempt to simplify such very complex calculations using an incubation time concept for defects coalescence, in the spirit of Tuler and Butcher and others.
By comparing the calculations and the experiments, it seems that the approach works nicely, produces realistic results, and most of all does not necessitate complex models with too many parameters of very sophisticated FE formulations.
Enjoy
A new postdoctoral fellow position will start on 1 November 2017 at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. The position is in the area of theoretical and computational modeling of failure in soft solids. The potential candidate should have a Ph.D.
Mechanical properties of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (YSTZ) bicrystals under compressive loading are investigated by atomistic simulations. Previous studies on deformation of single-crystal YSTZ showed that some specific orientations promote dislocation emission, tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation, or both. In this work, nanograins with different orientations are selectively combined to generate bicrystals with various grain boundaries (GBs).
The 8th annual New England Workshop on the Mechanics of Materials and Structures (NEW.Mech 2017) is taking place at MIT on October 14, 2017. We would like to let you know that the registration deadline for submitting an e-poster or teaser talk is October 4 and the registration deadline for general admission is October 11.
The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seeks applicants for a position at the tenure-track level in Advanced Bioelectronics, with an expected start date of July 1, 2018.
Versatile Structures Lab (http://u.osu.edu/hu.1773/) at the Ohio State University is accepting applications to fill the need of 2 MS students and 1 PhD student, starting Fall 2018.
