For the emerging areas - we are looking at themes such as additive manufacturing, metamaterials, 2D materials, data driven modeling, extreme environment mechanics or a fusion of these.
Starting a new journal is risky. Starting a new journal in mechanics is particularly risky. The responses to the two recent posts are encouraging, however.
Within two weeks since the first post, the combined reads of the two entries have passed 20,000.

I am soliciting advice for how to continue to keep mechanics skills sharp while in a more business/leadership role.
Please advise on techniques you have used or suggestions for ways to stay current.

I try to plot the butterfly curve for piezoelectric material (strain vs. electric field for different applied stress values). Butterfly curve shows the nonlinear response of the piezoelectric material which is a hysteretic response.
I just want to ask you guys if anybody knows a good way to plot butterfly curve for 1-3 piezoelectric materials in matlab????

Veryst Engineering is offering a 2-day in-person training course on Advanced Structural Mechanics using COMSOL Multiphysics. The course will be in Houston on November 3-4, and it will cover basic and advanced structural/solid mechanics capabilities in COMSOL including contact, material modeling, and fatigue. I will teach the course together with Dr. Stuart Brown, Veryst’s Managing Principal.

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITION University of Pittsburgh The Shankar Research Group (www.shankarlab.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh anticipates an opening for a postdoctoral associate starting tentatively in September 2014. The position’s primary area of research will focus on mechanical instabilities and actuation in structures fabricated from photoresponsive, azobenzene-functionalized liquid crystal polymers and polyimides. A background in experimental mechanics and mechanical characterization is required.
