Foundation on soil - ABAQUS
Hi there,
Recently I have modelled a 2D block of soil, at the first step of analysis the soil block subjected to a gravitational load (Gravity) and gravitational stresses generated in the soil block, at the second step, a little rectangular part of soil block removed and currently a concrete block with same size of removed soil embedded on the soil block. this concrete block to be subjected a surface loading.

modal damping ratio for viscoelastic material
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can give me suggestion on the following problem.
I would like to do Frequency response study on a viscoelastic material. The frequency response computation usually takes a modal damping ratio. However the viscoelatic material is defined by K (elastic bulk modulus), G0 (short-time shear modulus), Gi (long-time shear modulus) and Beta (decay constant).
Is there a way to find the modal damping ratio from the time domain viscoelastic material parameters (K, G0, Gi and Beta)? E.g. in a FEM environment?
Thanks.
Pros and Cons of element deletion in Abaqus
Hi all ... i have been doing element deletion extensively in my analysis but was wondering ... wat are the Pros and Cons of using this method. To my knowledge was wondering how the deleted mass and energy are conserved through out the analysis. Thank you all.

Modeling Viscoelastic Dielectrics
Dielectric elastomer, as an important category of electroactive polymers, is known to have viscoelastic properties that strongly affect its dynamic performance and limit its application. Very few models accounting for the effects of both electrostatics and viscoelasticity exist in the literature, and even fewer are capable of making reliable predictions under general loads and constraints. Based on the principals of nonequilibrium thermodynamics, this paper develops a field theory that fully couples the large inelastic deformations and electric fields in deformable dielectrics.
