Can nonlinear buckling analysis gives us an over estimate ?

Submitted by omidomid on

I am working on thermal buckling of annular FGM plates using the DQ method in FORTRAN. The results show that for simply-simply edges, the nonlinear thermal buckling loads are greater than those of eigen buckling loads. But for clamped-clamped edges, as it may be expected, the nonlinear buckling loads are under estimate, i.e. they are lower than eigen buckling loads. Why?

Is it possible that the nonlinear buckling analysis gives us an over estimate load ?

Computational power for ALE meshing in 3d model

Submitted by tahsinopoz on
Hello everyone

Can anyone suggest me how much computational power needed to run a 3D model with ALE mesh in Abaqus/Explicit. I currently use (intel core i7 3.2 GHz and 12 GB RAM) but it seems not sufficient and abaqus abort itself after some running time. I would be very gratefull if you suggest any valuable information. by the way, I am working on cutting simulation in abaqus/explict.

How to get the elemental stiffness/damping matrix of a Maxwell spring-damper element?

Submitted by zhangxiaodong on

A Maxwell spring-damper element consists of a nonlinear damper in series with a spring.

The force deformation relationship can ben found in the file attached . The problem is the constitutive relationship is in the form of  a PDE.

Does any on konw how to get the elemental stiffness/damping matrix?   Or can anyone suggest some reference?

Thanks a lot.

On the sign of shear stresses in the Mohr's circle

Submitted by Faustino Mujika on

Usually, the position of points in Mohr's circle is attributed to a sign convetion related to shear stresses. It is shown that points in the circle related to shear stresses generating a clockwise moment are in the upper half of the circle as a consequence of the position of principal directions, not due to a convention. I hope this note could help to explain better the use of Mohr's circle in plane stress states.

Immediate Opening for Post Doctoral Fellow in Tribology of Magnetic Data Storage System

Submitted by mason on

Data Storage Institute in Singapore (www.dsi.a-star.edu.sg) has an immediate opening for a Post Doctoral Fellow in Tribology of Magnetic Data Storage System. The PDF will be involved in the research and development of advanced overcoats and lubricants for future magnetic data storage systems. A PhD degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics/Chemistry is essential for this position. Good testing skills and strong research experience are desirable.

Material Parameter Calibration for Johnson Cook

Submitted by priyadd84 on

Hi all ... Is there a way to find/calibrate material parameters for johnson and cook material model using experimental data in Abaqus? .. As far as i know abaqus has something called as data editor with which Hyperelastic materials models can be calibrated with experimental results. If not is there any other way arround to do calibration of material parameter with abaqus.
