Thermodynamics and Fracture Mechanics

Submitted by Lucas Maximo Alves on

Hello!

Let's discuss here some subjects related to Fractal Fracture Mechanics and Fracture Thermodynamics,

1. Introduction

A Fractal Model for rugged crack length, for example, can provide an analytical equation to the crack length L, as a function of projected crack length, L0

2. Crack growth resistance

Theoretically, modeling the rugged crack growth, it is possible to obtain the crack growth resistance curve (R-curve) from the crack geometry and the specific energy surface, geff:

 R=2geffdL/dL0

where:

dL/dL0 is the ruggedness measure obtained from the derivative rugged crack length, L, as a function of projected crack length, L0

as is shown in the Figure - 1.
