PhD Position on the Mechanical Properties of DNA Nanostructures

Submitted by Stavros Gaitanaros on

Applications are invited for a PhD position at Johns Hopkins University (beginning Fall 2018) on a collaborative project between the labs of Extreme Mechanics of Architected Materials (Prof. Stavros Gaitanaros) and Mechanochemistry And Functional Imaging Applications (Prof. Yun Chen) at Johns Hopkins University.
The project will focus on the combination of multi-scale modeling and experiments in order to examine the mechanical behavior of DNA origami nanostructures.

Short Course on Mechanics of Foams

Submitted by Stavros Gaitanaros on

A short course on the “Mechanics of Liquid and Solid Foams” will be offered at CISM, the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences in Udine, Italy, 3-7 July 2017 (see brochure attached).

The course will focus on relationships between the cellular microstructure and nonlinear mechanical behavior of liquid and solid foams, and foam-like biological and synthetic materials. Theoretical models, experimental methods, and numerical simulations will be presented. The course is aimed at PhD students, postdocs, and researchers in academia and industry.

The speakers are:

Postdoctoral Fellow position at Johns Hopkins University

Submitted by Stavros Gaitanaros on

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow research position at Johns Hopkins University, focused on the computational modeling and nonlinear mechanics of architected materials.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or a related discipline, and should have demonstrated background in computational solid mechanics. Previous experience with cellular/porous materials is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational talents are expected.
