Postgraduate (Master by Research / PhD) under Swinburne-National Road Safety Action Grants Program (NRSAGP) funded by Australia’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts
A PhD student position in the field of mechanics is available in the Department of Mechanical and Product Design Engineering at the Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia). The project will focus on developing a new energy-absorbing metamaterial, incorporating the synergistic effect of shear-thickening fluid (STF) and cellular structures, for improved mechanical performance under different loading conditions.
Prior experience with finite element methods and impact testings is highly preferred.
There are several PhD scholarships at School of Engineering, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. The scholarship includes the annual stipend AU$27,596 for three years (with possible 6 months extension). The focus of the research will be on topology optimization of structures, materials, and metamaterials.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
1) A Bachelor degree honours and/or a research master’s degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field;
We are seeking one Master by Research student and one PhD student interested in the mechanical response of additively manufactured structures. Candidates are required to have either Bachelor (Honours) or Master degree (or equivalent) in Manufacturing or Automotive or Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Material Science or Mechanics, or a similar discipline.
