modeling simply supported beam in ansys

Hi,
I am modeling a simply supported beam in ansys using a plane 183 element. In this case (A two dimensional beam model) how should I give the B.C.s? Should I apply B.C.s to
1) the mid node on the edge of beam? or
2) to the entire edge? or
3) just to the bottom node?
according to me the first choise seems OK. But the results are not satisfactotry. plz help.
Dhanashri.

If you are modelling
If you are modelling two dimensional beam model only for simply supported beam put boundary conditions on end nodes only....one fixed and other can slide along lenght. load u can apply anywhere in between. if u are not getting results check for element properties.

How the boundary conditions are specified depends on the orientation of the elements. Is the applied load normal to the plate faces or is it applied to the plate edges?
modeling 3D simply supported beam in ansys
Hi,
I am modeling a 3D simply supported beam in ansys using a SOLID95
element. In this case, how should I give
the B.C.s? Should I apply B.C.s to
1) the mid nodes on the edge of beam? or
2) to the entire edge? or
3) just to the bottom nodes?
according to me, I have tried to use the various B.C case, but the results are very different even though the nodes number taken in account change slightly, and for all case, the result is not satisfactory with my analytical solution. plz help.
Thanks in avance!
