Hello everyone,
I hope to find an answer to my problem in this forum.
I'm working on the finite element model of a SMP in order to predict the
recovery shape after heating. I'm in trouble about the material
properties of this kind of polymer. I run tensile stress test, DMA and
TMA in order to characterise the material. However I didn't succeed to
write the good command in Ansys to get a shape memory effect.
Does anyone of you has knowledges about SMP ?
Thank you very much,
Michel

FEA analysis of SMP
Dear Michel,
I suggess you review the following two articles which may be helpful for your work:
[1] 'Cyclic Viscoplastic-Viscodamage Analysis of Shape Memory Polymer Fibers with Application to Self-Healing Smart Materials", J. Appl. Mech. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/1.4007140 (2009) Accepted Manuscript posted 17 July 2012
[2] 'A viscoplastic theory of shape memory polymer fibres with application to self-healing materials', Proc. R. Soc. A August 8, 2012 468 2144 2319-2346; published ahead of print April 11, 2012, doi:10.1098/rspa.2011.0628 1471-2946
For an accurate FEA simulation the change in material properties due to the temperature variation should be included and you may need to write a userdefined Material subroutine for ANSYS to get the SM effect.
I hope these comments help
Good luck
Amir
Hello Amir, Thank
Hello Amir,
Thank you very much for those lectures, its should help me.
I thought that Ansys could understand DMA results E',E'' and fits a model via the curve fitting plot but it's just for stress strain test.
I have never written an usermat. Some advices for this step ?
Thank you,
Michel
