Teaching Faculty Position

 The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department at Northeastern University is seeking outstanding individuals to fill two non-tenure-track teaching faculty positions (i.e. Academic Specialists).  One position is in the area of mechanics and/or mechatronics whereas the other is in industrial engineering.

The MIE Department (www.mie.neu.edu) at Northeastern University, ranked among the top 50 in the nation, is a successful and vibrant academic enterprise which is growing in both size and stature. The department comprises over 50 full-time faculty members. At the core of the Northeastern engineering education experience is our top-ranked cooperative education program, which contributes significantly to the integrated learning model of the College of Engineering.

The main responsibility of the Academic Specialist faculty position is high quality student-centered teaching, including preparation, delivery, and assessment, primarily at the undergraduate level. The annual course responsibility is six courses. The Academic Specialist is also given the opportunity to participate in department, university, and professional service activities as well as to be engaged in a modest level of research activities and to teach a graduate course.

The primary emphasis of the Mechanics/Mechatronics position is the teaching of courses in mechanics and/or mechatronics as well as capstone design advising. PhD required in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.

For the Industrial Engineering position, the primary emphasis is on undergraduate industrial engineering courses, such as probability and statistics, quality assurance, operations research, manufacturing systems, engineering economy and capstone design. PhD required in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field with an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.
