REG: ANALAYSIS OF COMPOSITE SHELL IN ANSYS

Submitted by sandip_remo on

im doin my final yr proj on composite shell......actually my structure involve a single layerd and a bidirectional fiber orientation...

But i felt really tough in solving usin ANSYS..i started my proceedings with some approximations ie) i hav used modelling->layup option with an assumption of 0.5 mm thick layer of 0 deg orientation....nd remaining 0.5mm thick layer of 90 deg orientation...

but my stucture involves an interwoven fabric structure....so im not sure whether im moving rite.....so pls give me ur suggestions

thanks in advance

Hi friend,

I didnt get your question completely. but  you should make your sample to find what is the real thickness of your material and also get the material model as a input data for Ansys. without this data I suppose your research is not going in the right way.

The actual thickness of my specimen is 1mm.It is made of single layered composite material and has a bidirectional fiber orientation...we havent faced any kind of problem while modelling since the properties of our material have been noted through experiments..The real problem occurs for us only in ansys while designing the bidirectional fiber orientation..so Please guide us egarding this...Awaiting for ur reply

Dear Friend,

As far as I know it could not possible to define bidirectional composite in ANSYS, so in your case perhaps it could be better to consider your product as a solid orthotropic material with different properties in fiber directions. You can find the properties of your product with makig the specimens and do the mechanical test in different fiber direstion for findig the desired properties and apply as a input data in the ANSYS material model.
