Matthias Irmscher

My name is Matthias Irmscher and I am a graduate student currently visiting the University of Maryland for a year. I will finish my equivalent of a Master's degree at the Technical University of Ilmenau in Germany by the end of 2008. I am a current Fulbright grantee.

My research interests are on the field of MEMS. In particular, I am interested in bioMEMS and new actuating concepts.

In spring 2007, I took the course about flexible macroelectronics. My interest in this field was spurred by a project I carried out for Professor Yu's class on Sensors and Actuators in fall 2006. The project was about a large-area sensor array that could be used for pressure detection. As my background on this field initially was very thin and I struggled to acquire sufficient knowledge, I opted to take Professor Li's class to get a solid foundation on this relatively new field.
