sghosh's picture

The newly founded Air Force sponsored, Center of Excellence in Integrated Materials Modeling (CEIMM) at Johns Hopkins University, is actively recruiting outstanding M.S. and Ph. D. students, as well as post-doctoral researchers, with a strong background and/or interest in computational solid mechanics, computational material science, physical sciences and mathematics. Specific areas of research will include multi-scale (from atomistic to continuum) computational modeling of polycrystalline materials (e.g. metals and alloys) and polymer-matrix composite materials.

The center will provide comprehensive funding including stipends, graduate tuition and travel grants to qualified graduate students entering the program. Students with B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics or any equivalent degrees are invited to apply.

Interested graduate applicants should apply immediately for Spring 2013 admission to Mechanical or Civil Engineering departments at JHU, and also send their CV and three references to Professor Somnath Ghosh (CEIMM director) and Ms. Ji Yeon Hong (CEIMM coordinator). US citizenship or US permanent residence status is required for participating in the center of excellence CEIMM.

ABOUT CEIMM: Johns Hopkins University Center of Excellence in Integrated Materials Modeling (CEIMM) is a newly instituted Center, jointly sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and Air Force Research Laboratory. CEIMM is creating a collaborative, multidisciplinary research and educational program to foster foundational advances in computational and experimental methodologies, supporting the Integrated Computational Materials Science and Engineering (ICMSE) theme. The overarching goal is to overcome limitations of empiricism-based phenomenological models through physics-based spatio-temporal multi-scaling approaches, empowered by innovation, integration and education.
