Call for Abstracts: Symposium on “Multifunctional and Multiphysics Materials for Energy Applications” at SEM 2015 (Costa Mesa, CA, June 8-11, 2015)
Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to submit an abstract to Symposium on “Multifunctional and Multiphysics Materials for Energy Applications” at the 2015 Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM) Annual Conference, to be held on June 8-11, 2015, in Costa Mesa, CA.
Materials for use in energy applications, including energy generation, storage, conversion, absorption, and harvesting, often exhibit multifunctional properties across multiple physical domains. The successful development and deployment of these materials relies critically on a fundamental understanding of strongly coupled multiphysics phenomena, such as mechanics, heat and mass transfer, phase transformation, electromagnetism, and chemistry. The objective of this symposium is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of experimental investigations in this highly interdisciplinary field. The symposium will cover the latest research advances from the mechanics prospective and seek to identify new research challenges by exploring interfaces with other disciplines. Suggested topics include but are not limited to: in-situ and ex-situ experimental characterization of coupling phenomena between mechanical and other physical processes, microstructure/property relationship and phase transformation in multifunctional materials, and integrative experimental and modeling approaches.
To submit an abstract, please visit the conference website at http://sem.org/Conference-Abstract-Submission.cfm?ConfNumber=100207. The deadline for abstract submission is October 1, 2014. Please enter “Shuman Xia & Samantha Daly” as Session Organizers during abstract submission and select topic 5 “Fracture and Fatigue”.
