smoothed stress values in reduced integration

Submitted by r_n_s_s on

Hi everybody,

There is common way of extrapolating stress values from Gaussian points to nodes to average the stresses. This process is straightforward to implement in any finite element code. However, for that, there must be the same number of Gaussian points as nodes to perform the extrapolations. What happes when reduced integration techniques is being used? In this case the stress value is calculated at the centriod of element and cannot be extrapolated to nodes becuse only one stress value exist while there are four nodes (for instance). Is there any way to conquer this problem?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Regards,
