The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions to begin July 2019 or thereafter. Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment may be possible.

We are seeking exceptional candidates who can contribute to the educational and research mission and vision of the department by combining rigorous methodologies with domain knowledge with lasting societal impact in areas ranging from the environment to infrastructure. We will consider exceptional candidates with background in all areas relevant to the mission and vision of the department, including but not limited to: transportation and urban systems, environmental fluid mechanics, resilient infrastructure, and environmental chemistry. Candidates should combine rigorous, experimental, analytical, data-driven or model-based approaches with relevant domain-specific knowledge.

The candidate should have demonstrated excellence in original research and demonstrate strong fundamental knowledge in a core area. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, developing course materials, student advising, conducting original scholarly research, and supervision of student research. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline by the beginning of employment.

Applications are being accepted electronically at https://school-of-engineering-faculty-search.mit.edu/cee-search/. Each application must include: a curriculum vitae; the names and addresses of three or more individuals who will be submitting reference letters, a two-page strategic statement of research interests, a one-page statement of teaching interests, and electronic copies of no more than three representative publications. It is the responsibility of the candidate to arrange for reference letters to be uploaded at https://school-of-engineering-faculty-search.mit.edu/letters/.

Applications received by December 15, 2018 will be given priority. With MIT’s strong commitment to diversity in engineering education, research and practice we especially encourage minorities and women to apply.
